National legal services day was first celebrated in the year 1995 on 9th of November.
Legal services authorities act 1987 came into force on the year 1987.
Article 14 and Article 22 obligates the state, that is the legislature, the judiciary and the executive to ensure equality before the eyes of the law.
The constitution of India provides certain fundamental rights to every citizen in the country and it is the duty of the judicial system to uphold those rights.
National legal services day objective is to provide free and competent legal services to the vulnerable and weaker sections of the society.
India is a country where there is a large wealth gap between different sections of the society and campaigns such as national legal services week help to bridge that gap to a certain extent.
Every citizen of the country irrespective of caste, creed, religion, race or wealth should have access to free and fair judicial system.
Judiciary, executive and legislature are the three pillars of our country and each of them should work independently from each other without fear or favour.
On the 9th of November, Lok Adalats are organised across the country to make legal services free to the vulnerable sections of the society and encourage people to avail of the services.
One has to remember that an independent Judiciary is extremely important to save not just the constitution and democratic values of the country but the entire societal structure on which India is built.
